Boerboel

This is a primary failure mode. Many Boerboels, particularly males, will not tolerate another dog of the same sex in their household once they reach sexual maturity (18-24 months). This aggression is often sudden and severe.

Unlike a Golden Retriever who welcomes burglars, a Boerboel is naturally suspicious. Without extensive, ongoing socialization, this suspicion can escalate to fear-aggression or liability-inducing protective behavior.

Their dominant nature makes them prone to guarding food, toys, or even their owners. This requires an experienced handler who understands how to manage resource guarding without confrontation.
