What Is Cold Pressed Dog Food?

Cold Pressed Dog Food entered the pet food market in recent years. A shelf stable dog food with huge nutrient benefits similar to that of a raw dog food diet, without the need for freezer space.

Cold pressed dog food differs from traditional dry food because of how the ingredients are processed.

Extruded Dry Dog Food
The ingredients in conventional dry dog food are extruded at high temperatures. The first stage of production can heat the food from 120 to 150 degrees. The final stage of production cooks the food at 200 degrees. As a consequence, many nutrients are damaged or destroyed and unfortunately don’t make it to your dog’s bowl.

Drying of pet foods at high temperatures (160–180 °C) can significantly reduce nutrients or nutrient reactivity.

In contrast, when food is cold pressed, the raw ingredients are processed gently and at lower temperatures (around 80 degrees). As a result, the food retains more essential nutrients to support your dog’s overall health and well-being.

Another plus for cold pressed food is that it’s much easier to digest. It doesn’t expand in the dog’s stomach in the way that dry extruded food does – it simply dissolves when it enters the stomach. Because of this, it’s much less likely to cause bloat, reducing the risk of Gastric dilatation-volvulus.

What is Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (Bloat)?

Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) is a serious condition and is fatal if left untreated. Commonly referred to as “bloat,” GDV occurs when a dog’s stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid and subsequently twists.  GDV develops without warning and can progress quickly.  It is always an emergency.
