Basenji Considerations
Basenjis are aloof, independent, and self-cleaning. They will not gaze adoringly into your eyes awaiting a command. If you want a dog that lives to please, . They are notoriously difficult to train using traditional methods and will openly ignore commands they deem pointless.
This is a significant issue in the breed. Research indicates that aggressive behavior towards other dogs was reported in of Basenjis in one study, significantly higher than many other breeds. A Basenji can climb chain-link fences, open latches, and squeeze through impossibly small gaps. They have zero road sense and will bolt into traffic if they see a squirrel. Off-leash reliability is virtually non-existent for this breed.
